Manipal - Government of Karnataka Bioincubator, a Technology Business Incubator (TBI) was established with the support of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), K Tech-Government of Karnataka and BIRAC - Department of Biotechnology, Government of India.

Manipal-GoK Bioincubator-BioNEST and its Student Entrepreneurship Cell in association with Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MCOPS), MAHE, Manipal is organizing an online Manipal BioPharma Hackathon 2025, scheduled on February 25th, 2025.

This Hackathon is conducted with the vision to promote student innovations, start-up creation and encourage critical thinking skills essential to address the most pressing issues in the BioPharma domain.

The hackathon comprises two important segments:

Euphoria 10.0 on February 03rd, 2025 at 9:15 am: A segment featuring virtual engaging talks focused on brainstorming participants about pertinent topics in the Pharma/BioPharma field, emphasizing innovations and technology.

Grand Finale on February 25th, 2025: Participating teams will virtually pitch their ideas to a closed group of jury members.

The entire event will be conducted online via the MS Teams platform. Participation is open to all students and researchers affiliated with academic or research institutions (UG/PG/Doctoral studies). Individuals who do not have teams are encouraged to create multidisciplinary teams by registering individually and connecting with other solo registrants in the event (Teammate Lookout BioPharma Hackathon).

Exciting rewards await participants, including the opportunity to win prize money of up to INR 1 lakh, a pre-incubation period lasting 6 months, and potential seed funding of up to INR 25 lakhs. Additionally, participants will have access to valuable technical sessions and mentoring. AI holds huge promise for healthcare, but not just on the medical side; many startups are convinced machine learning-based systems can do a lot of good on adjacent tasks such as appointment scheduling and confirmations.

Brazilian startup Carecode is among these AI believers. It’s coming out of stealth with an ambition to reduce healthcare costs and improve medical outcomes by developing AI agents that focus on tasks that happen before and after a medical appointment — and would typically be run by a call center.

“We tend to think that only the moment with the doctor is what matters, but after having spent 10 years in healthcare I realized that those moments [around the appointment] are as important as the medical encounter,” CEO Thomaz Srougi (pictured right in the above image) told TechCrunch.

Srougi comes from a family of doctors, but he’s not one himself; his firsthand knowledge of healthcare comes from founding Dr. Consulta, a private medical service provider scaleup that’s raised some $168 million in funding, and where he remains chairman.

Carecode is still early in its fundraising journey, but already has an impressive cap table: Its $4.3 million pre-seed round was mostly funded by a16z and QED, with participation from Endeavor Catalyst, K50 Ventures, and Latitud Ventures, as well as high-profile figures from Brazil’s tech scene, including Nubank founder David Vélez.

"Diagnostics Firm Redcliffe Labs Raises $42M in Series C Round"

Redcliffe Labs, an omnichannel diagnostics service provider, has secured $42 million in Series C funding, led by Denmark's Investment Fund for Developing Countries (IFU) with a $20 million investment, followed by existing investor LeapFrog Investments with $15 million.

The remaining capital came from existing shareholders HealthQuad and Spark Growth Ventures.This funding will fuel Redcliffe's expansion plans, focusing on deepening its presence in Tier-II and Tier-III cities across India.

The company plans to open more labs and collection centers, expand its home collection network, and pursue strategic partnerships and acquisitions .
Redcliffe's goal is to democratize access to high-quality, affordable, and accurate diagnostics for every Indian, particularly in underserved populations.
The company currently operates over 80 labs, processes tests from 2,000 collection centers, and has a network of 1,000 phlebotomists across 220 cities in India .

Business-to-business (B2B) healthcare financing firm HealthCRED announced that it raised $1.2 million in a seed funding round led by Antler India, TRTL VC, DeVC, iSeedVC, and Angel List India.
The round saw the participation of angel investors such as Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) President Subho Ray, Uni Cards chief executive officer (CEO) Nitin Gupta, among others. The firm will utilise the raised capital to expand operations in the southern and western parts of the country. Furthermore, the seed capital will be used to hire fresh talent and develop B2B loan onboarding and loan management systems (LMS). The Delhi-based company has a post-money valuation of $13 million, according to data from market intelligence platform Tracxn. “With the rapid penetration of health insurance in the post-COVID scenario, there has been increased working capital management stress for hospitals and health service providers (HSPs).
