  • #SCAMALERT Businesses, Who worked for COD or using any logistic services, make sure at every loop hole should be checked at your end!

𝗔 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗢𝗗 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗺 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱

Today, I came across a disturbing example of a COD (Cash on Delivery) scam, which hit hard not only financially but also for the breach of trust involved.

    𝟭. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆:
We arranged a 10,000 INR COD delivery for a gynecologist in Odisha, committed to providing critical IUI services in a remote area.
This delivery wasn’t just about business; it was about supporting a professional bringing vital resources to areas with limited access.

    𝟮. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘆:
After two weeks, I reviewed our COD disbursement dashboard and noticed a discrepancy.
The system showed that the parcel was undelivered and on its way back, even though the customer had confirmed receipt the day it arrived.

    𝟯. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁-𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆:
I reached out to the delivery team, who quickly arranged for the package’s return.
When I opened the returned parcel, I was shocked to find 99 INR toys inside instead of our product.
Everything on the outside—box, invoice, labels—matched our original shipment, but the contents had been swapped.

    𝟰. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗺 𝗨𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗱:
The local delivery person spotted the high COD amount of 10,000 INR and used it as an opportunity for fraud.
    Here’s how they managed it:
The delivery person opened the package, replaced our product with cheap toys, and put the toys back in our original box.
They then delivered our real product using a different, fake packaging, collected the cash, and returned the altered box to us, making it seem like a return.

    𝟱. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁:
This incident isn’t just a financial hit; it affects the trust and integrity of the COD system.

Professionals like our customer, serving in remote locations, rely on the credibility of the delivery process to access essential tools.

    𝟲. 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗺𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘁:
In a previous role, I’d heard of COD scams where food delivery riders would manipulate orders to pocket cash.
Hearing about it was one thing; experiencing it firsthand is another.

    𝟳. 𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽𝘀:
I’ve filed a complaint with Delhivery, and I’m hopeful for a fair resolution.
This situation highlights the urgent need for stronger systems and accountability in COD transactions to prevent similar incidents in the future.

    𝟴. 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀:
To all businesses and professionals using COD, stay vigilant.
Let’s hope for a system that protects everyone, especially those striving to make a difference in underserved areas.

Stay safe, and here’s to hoping we find a solution to prevent such issues from happening again.

Fingers crossed for justice—not just for us, but for everyone out there trying to make a positive impact.

  • Business-to-business (B2B) healthcare financing firm HealthCRED announced that it raised $1.2 million in a seed funding round led by Antler India, TRTL VC, DeVC, iSeedVC, and Angel List India.
The round saw the participation of angel investors such as Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) President Subho Ray, Uni Cards chief executive officer (CEO) Nitin Gupta, among others. The firm will utilise the raised capital to expand operations in the southern and western parts of the country. Furthermore, the seed capital will be used to hire fresh talent and develop B2B loan onboarding and loan management systems (LMS). The Delhi-based company has a post-money valuation of $13 million, according to data from market intelligence platform Tracxn. “With the rapid penetration of health insurance in the post-COVID scenario, there has been increased working capital management stress for hospitals and health service providers (HSPs). The key factor is the delay associated with the realisation of insurance receivables,” said Shrey Jain, co-founder and CEO, HealthCRED
